3 Holiday Crafts for Kids
One of the best parts of the holiday season is making it special for the kids. Sure, with these craft ideas they may find out what’s in their stockings, but it’s a chance to create holiday memories that they'll cherish as adults. Mostly what they'll remember is the special time that their parents spent with them, despite mom and dad being busy with work and trying to get everything together for the holidays.
Creating crafts and decorations means that there's a keepsake to treasure for years to come. Crafting is also a great way to teach your child skills that they may enjoy for a lifetime, as well as keeping them busy when your schedule is full.
It's a simple matter to find a variety of holiday crafts online - Pinterest, for example, has thousands. We've chosen a few that are relatively simple, and have plenty of room for variation. Encourage your kids (and yourself) to be creative. Try wild color combinations, or use materials you never thought of before (why not a reindeer made from sandpaper?). Take the opportunity to teach whenever you can - fractions when folding paper, for example. But mostly just have fun!
Fingerprints, handprints, footprints. Sometimes the simplest crafts can turn out to be the best. Either trace out hands or feet on paper and decorate, or use paints to stamp sweatshirts or paper, or maybe even create clay ornaments - you can use whatever medium you desire. Decorate ornaments, create wrapping paper or make decorations/gifts for the “kiddie table.” It’s a very versatile craft. Check out these holiday handprints, thumbprint Christmas lights and more.
Tea-light snowman. This adorable snowman decoration is made from battery-operated tea lights and other inexpensive materials which can be purchased at the local dollar store. Don't limit yourselves to only snowmen - think penguins, elves, Santa, reindeer, or even children bundled up for the winter.
Cupcake liner trees. The beauty of this craft is that even if it isn’t done perfectly, it will still look cute! You can use this simple technique to create ornaments, garland, Christmas cards, or even hang them on doorknobs.
Whether it's to still those cries of “I'm bored” while you're trying to do your online shopping, or you've promised to do something with the kids, holiday crafting is bound to be a hit at your house. Don't forget to take pictures and/or video!
