6-Part List-Building Series: Using Social Media
We’re back with our 6 Part List-Building Series and this week we’re sharing 9 ways to build your list using social media:
Host a Facebook Live.
Facebook Lives are a great way to help your audience put a face to a name and feel more connected to your brand. During the recording, teach a concept or share actionable tips and strategies. Create additional useful content or a handout that contains all of the information you shared during the live stream and offer it to your audience—in exchange for their email, of course.
Link a newsletter in Instagram Stories or Snapchat.
Think outside the box when you distribute your newsletter. Take a quick video of some behind-the-scenes footage or valuable information your audience will find useful and then link it to your newsletter. Make sure that the video footage relates to something in the newsletter and spell out the benefits of subscribing.
Host a Twitter chat.
Twitter chats bring like-minded people together to discuss a particular topic or to ask questions. The chat will help you to start a conversation with your business audience and should attract an interested group of potential email leads.
Create a Facebook or LinkedIn group.
Social media groups on Facebook and LinkedIn are a great way to build a community around a particular experience, topic or life event. Once you have gained the trust and respect of your community by continuously offering value, it will be easy to ask members to subscribe to your newsletter. Some group admins even charge for membership in private groups, which makes it easy to collect email addresses from the start.
Include a Sign Up button and opt-in form on your Facebook page.
Tailor your Facebook page into a list building machine. Facebook gives you the option to include a Sign Up button on the top of your business page that you can link directly to a subscription form. Pro tip: Create a cover photo that explains exactly what your followers will get by subscribing and include an arrow that points directly to the button.
Facebook also allows you to upload several images to the left-hand sidebar on your page and link to the URL of your choice. Take advantage and include another call-to-action, encouraging followers to subscribe.
Create a giveaway.
Do you have a free product you can give to a lucky customer? Host a giveaway where participants can enter for a chance to win in exchange for their email address.
Use YouTube cards in your videos.
If you create and post videos on YouTube already, then adding just one more step to your process could bring you a lot of emails. In your videos, mention your newsletter and include a YouTube card that links to the page where your audience can subscribe.
Promote your lead magnet.
A lead magnet is exactly what it sounds like—some sort of incentive businesses offer to their audience in exchange for their contact information. It’s something that attracts leads to your business for you. Social media is a great place to promote your lead magnet in order to gain new additions to your email list.
Add a call-to-action to your social media profiles.
Like your website’s About Page, social media profiles are a great place to share a little bit about yourself and your business, and include a call-to-action. Your followers are gaining something valuable for free and you’re converting them to subscribers—it’s a win-win situation for everybody!
