You have how many Likes!?
and why should I care?
So, your business has 1000 Facebook friends, 5000 likes, 3000 twitter followers, 1500 1st level connections on LinkedIn and you have a big presence on Instagram, Pinterest, and other social media platforms.
Guess what, I don't care about any of those numbers! What I do care about is...
revenue numbers. Can you equate all those followers, likers, friends, connections to sales? I mean directly, and measureable. Can you say that you spent $500 to double your Likes on your page and directly from that you got another $1000 in sales?
If not, I don't care and neither should you!
Don't spend endless hours (or pay someone large somes of money) to get more social media presence if it is not making any difference. All the Social Media Gurus will tell you that you have to be on lots of platforms, get lots of followers, send lots of tweets, etc. Hogwash! Hey, I am not against social media and I do think that having a regular presence is a good thing, But unless your customers, clients or patients are:
- On that social media platform
- Are following you
- Are engaged with you
- Are buying because of what you say there
Then back WAY off and move your efforts elsewhere (hint: move to where your customers and prospects are).
Some business owners wear their numbers like a badge of honor, like it means something. It only means something if it translates into measureable revenue....PERIOD. As a small business owner, you have limited resources (time, money, etc.) and you must put your resources where they will help grow your business. If social media isn't one of them do less of it and move elsewhere.
